Zommari Leroux is a tall, dark-skinned Arrancar with a calm and contemplative demeanor. He rarely spoke until his confrontation with Byakuya Kuchiki. His chin is marked by several triangular tattoos. The remnants of his Hollow mask include a row of bony spikes along the top of his head, skull-shaped earrings, and a bony necklace. Zommari's first significant appearance occurs shortly after Aaroniero Arruruerie's death. As he prepares to finish off Rukia Kuchiki, who killed Aaroniero, he is interrupted by Byakuya Kuchiki. The two engage in battle, and after releasing his Zanpakutō, Zommari takes control of Rukia's body to use her as a puppet against Byakuya. Byakuya counters this attempt and attacks Zommari with his Bankai. Zommari barely survives and realizes he has lost. He begs for his life but then angrily dismisses Shinigami as arrogant for believing they have the right to hunt and judge Hollows simply because they consider them evil. Byakuya counters by stating that he fought because Zommari "pointed [his] sword at [his] pride" (referring to Rukia) and then kills the Espada with a single strike. Zommari dies shouting his praise for Aizen. Zommari's Sonído is considered the fastest among the Espada, allowing him to leave up to five afterimages of himself when he moves. This ability is called Gemelos Sonído (Spanish for "Twins Sound"). His Zanpakutō is named Brujería (Spanish for "witchcraft"), which resembles a regular katana except for its guard, a thick disk with spikes around the rim. It is released with the command "suppress" (鎮まれ, Shizumare). When released, Brujería covers Zommari's entire body with fifty open eyes, and his legs are replaced by a pumpkin-like structure surrounded by cycloptic faces. Using these eyes, Zommari can take control of one object per eye, referring to this effect as amor (Spanish for "love"). This is indicated by a sun-shaped mark on the affected area and dilation of the activated eye. He can control an opponent's limbs individually or their entire body by targeting their head. The release can also be used defensively, forming a full sphere that covers his upper body. This sphere was strong enough to barely withstand an attack from Byakuya Kuchiki's Bankai, though it cost him the use of many eyes.
