Ichigo generally looks like a typical teenage boy, except for his spiky orange hair, which has often been a source of teasing. He is tall and lean with peach skin and brown eyes. After becoming a Shinigami, he developed a more muscular build, as observed by his sister Karin. In his spiritual form, Ichigo wears standard Shinigami clothing with an additional strap across his chest.
As a child, Ichigo saw his mother as the center of his world. He was always smiling when with Masaki and frequently held her hand. As a teenager, his personality became more intricate. Stubborn, short-tempered, confrontational at times, determined, outspoken, strong-willed, and impulsive, Ichigo tries to maintain a cool exterior despite claiming not to care about others' opinions. His face usually carries a permanent scowl with furrowed eyebrows. Balancing the burdens of both the real world and Soul Society is challenging, especially for a teenager with his own set of worries and problems. Additionally, Ichigo is quite intelligent, ranking 23rd in his high school, partly to prove that despite his unique or punkish appearance, he can still excel.
Initially, Ichigo's Zanpakutō resembled a standard katana but was oversized with a large brown sheath slung over his right shoulder. It featured a rectangular bronze guard with inward-curving edges, stylized flame patterns on the long sides, and simple decorative slits on the short sides. The handle was red with two light blue tassels. Its large size stemmed from Ichigo’s immense yet unfocused spiritual power. Consequently, the sword was relatively weak, using minimal spiritual energy. However, it was powerful enough to subdue a Gillian-class Menos and lesser Hollows, even blocking a Cero. During his first encounter with Byakuya Kuchiki, most of the blade was easily cut off, and later, Kisuke Urahara sliced it down to the hilt during training, forcing Ichigo to learn his Zanpakutō's true name.
Ichigo is an extraordinary case. Despite being a Shinigami, he remains a living human residing in the Human World rather than Soul Society. He gained his powers through Urahara's training, which also bestowed him with Hollow abilities. Though technically classified as a Visored, Ichigo considers himself a Shinigami. Essentially, he is a human physically but a Visored spiritually, making his situation exceptionally rare. After losing his Shinigami powers, he reverted to being a human without any spiritual awareness. His vast spiritual power capacity came from being Isshin Kurosaki's offspring, allowing him to see ghosts and Hollows from a young age. It was revealed that he possesses Quincy powers due to his mother.
