He is a Shinigami with an afro who mainly appears in omake chapters. After Rukia Kuchiki is sentenced to be executed, he takes over her role in guarding Karakura Town from Hollows. Working in Karakura Town frustrates him because most of the Hollows are destroyed by other more prominent characters before he arrives. Additionally, an unusually high number of townspeople can see him, which adds to his annoyance. When he complains about this to Soul Society, he is dismissed and told not to interfere with the spiritually aware individuals around town. He continues to stay in Karakura even after Ichigo's return, last seen warning the Karakura-Rizer team about an incoming Arrancar. Although his division is unknown in the manga, the game Bleach: Soul Carnival identifies him as a member of the 13th Division.

Shikai: When released with the command "Good Morning" (おはよう, ohayō), it transforms into a chakram with a wooden handle embedded in the blade. This form was only shown in the anime.

Shikai Special Ability: By slamming the ground, Tsuchinamazu creates spikes of earth that can impale enemies.
