He hails from Annaka city, Gunma-ken. Takemoto resides in the same apartment complex as Mayama and Morita, specifically in room 202. His floormates include Morita and Hasegawa. Takemoto's field of study is architecture, though he harbors little certainty about his career path post-graduation; his choice to attend an art college stemmed from his enjoyment of building things with his hands, reminiscent of activities he shared with his father. Takemoto is one of the more mellow characters in the series. He falls in love with Hagu right after being introduced by his professor and keeps his feelings largely to himself throughout most of the series. His love for Hagu and his inability to express his feelings as openly as Morita cause some internal turmoil for Takemoto. For instance, when Hagu received a bird brooch as an anonymous gift, Takemoto couldn't bring himself to reveal that Morita had made it for her. Instead of acting on his feelings, Takemoto opts to be more of a brotherly figure to Hagu, offering friendly support whenever needed. This includes accepting Hagu's requests to build sophisticated dollhouses and other projects. Takemoto is very close to her. His relationship with his family also contributes to his calm demeanor. His father passed away when he was young. Additionally, his mother works as a nurse at a hospital, so Takemoto often spent much of his time there, even during Christmas holidays. Moreover, Takemoto feels uncomfortable with his mother's new husband, an outspoken man whose personality contrasts sharply with that of his father. However, Takemoto tries to adjust to his presence and accepts that his stepfather can take care of his mother. Since leaving home, Takemoto has been concerned about his mother's well-being. Her remarriage and reassurance that he is now free to pursue his own path influenced Takemoto's decision to attend art college. Later in the series, Takemoto must stay an additional year due to developing a stomach ulcer and not completing his graduation thesis. By the end of the first season, Takemoto embarks on a bicycle journey across Japan, meeting various people along the way, including a group at Zuigan-ji in Matsushima involved in renovating ancient Japanese structures and buildings nationwide (which he wishes to join). He finally reaches Cape Sōya in Wakkanai, Hokkaidō. Upon returning to Tokyo, he confesses his feelings for Hagu, but she lacks the courage to respond, leading Takemoto to conclude that his feelings are unrequited.
