At the start of the series, Mayama is 22 years old and a 4th year student. He hails from Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, and studies architecture at the art institute. Mayama resides in the same complex as Takemoto and Morita, occupying room 101 on the ground floor, which he shares with an unknown individual and was previously shared with Lohmeyer-senpai. He acts as a senior to Takemoto and assists Morita in waking up for early morning classes. Mayama also assisted Rika with various errands when she was disabled due to an accident that tragically left her husband dead. During this period, Mayama developed feelings for Rika. It remains unclear whether Rika fully reciprocates these feelings, but flashbacks suggest that Mayama and Rika have 'fooled around'. However, it is later clarified that this was not the case. Rika advised Mayama to find another job to avoid further emotional harm, acknowledging how much he cares for her but feeling unable, or perhaps unwilling, to let him into her life. Mayama eventually secured a position at Fujiwara Design. There, he had to deal with coworkers who were very interested in his love life and made comments whenever possible. Additionally, he had to keep an eye on his boss, Nomiya, whom he considered a playboy, especially when Nomiya began showing interest in Yamada. Mayama does not return Yamada's feelings but sees her as a close friend and strives to protect her innocence from Nomiya's advances. When Fujiwara Design later dissolved, employees had to choose between staying in the Tokyo branch or transferring to the Tottori branch. Nomiya arranged for Mayama's transfer to Tottori, but upon this announcement, Mayama promptly quit. He now works with Rika at her company, Harada Design, after securing a position there in his own unique way. Mayama's character design is inspired by Suga Shikao.
