Kudou Shinichi's Father. He is a renowned mystery writer. 'Night Baron' is a character from one of his novels. Like his son, he possesses a sharp intellect, akin to that of a detective, likely due to the nature of his mystery novels. Yuusaku was recognized for his keen intellect and deductive skills even in his youth. He befriended Inspector Megure and became a trusted friend and advisor in solving complex cases. Despite often aiding the police, Yuusaku's true passion lay in writing. He gained acclaim as a young novelist in his early twenties and met Fujimine Yukiko, a celebrated and beautiful actress, whom he decided to marry. During a dinner proposal at an upscale restaurant, they became entangled in a murder case, which Yuusaku solved brilliantly before proposing to Yukiko, who accepted. Twenty years later, his son Shinichi would face a similar case but wouldn't be able to declare his feelings to his love interest as Yuusaku did. Yuusaku has a very sharp intellect and observational skills, traits inherited by his son, though Yuusaku's abilities are more refined. In several instances, he demonstrates the ability to stay one step ahead of both Shinichi and criminals, yet he prefers not to intervene unless Conan seems unable to solve the case in time. His success as a novelist largely stems from his deep understanding of the criminal mind, as seen in his most famous recurring character being a criminal. Though an excellent author, he sometimes neglects his editors to do other activities, such as traveling with Yukiko. Yuusaku is very laid-back and calm, rarely losing his temper. Some might consider him too relaxed, as he frequently took his young son to crime scenes and showed no concern when six-year-old Shinichi involved Ran and Agasa in investigating a code in a potentially dangerous area. The only time he appears caught off-guard or stressed is after a false kidnapping incident, when Shinichi alerted Yuusaku's editors to his location, leading them to demand he catch up on missed deadlines. His less favorable traits include a certain cockiness and a poor sense of humor.
