Tsuburaya Mitsuhiko was a student at Teitan Elementary when Shinichi joined his class after being shrunk by the drug APTX 4869. Soon after, his classmates Ayumi and Genta had the idea to investigate a supposedly haunted mansion, and they convinced Conan to join them. When Mitsuhiko expressed skepticism about supernatural hauntings, Genta forcefully 'persuaded' him to come along as well. It turned out that the haunting was a cover-up for an old murder case. After solving it, the four decided to stay together and formed the core of what would become the Detective Boys. Later, it was revealed that Mitsuhiko's parents are both teachers, and he has an older sister, Tsuburaya Asami, who is about ten years older than him. Mitsuhiko enjoys reading science books and approaches problem-solving scientifically. He is a smart and well-read first-grader who believes technology can solve most problems. Due to his strict and formal upbringing, he tends to be very formal with elders, addressing them with the formal suffix "-san" regardless of the intimacy of their relationship. Mitsuhiko has a dislike for carrots and will always eat them last (if ever) if he can help it.
