Yumi is a traffic police officer who primarily deals with traffic accidents and hit-and-run incidents. She frequently encounters the Detective Boys and Conan while they are busy solving cases, and has assisted them multiple times in resolving mysteries and apprehending criminals. Yumi's best friend is Miwako Sato, whom she often playfully teases about her feelings for Wataru Takagi. She frequently approaches both of them to offer advice on how to express their feelings for each other, which sometimes leads to success but at other times fails due to Takagi and Sato's shyness around one another. Yumi is allergic to cats and owns several dogs. She is considered an attractive member of the police force but remains single. This status allows her to occasionally take advantage of the men in the district, having them buy her gifts in an attempt to impress her.
