Uehara Yui is a police detective originally from the Nagano prefecture and works under Yamato Kansuke. Uehara and Yamato were childhood friends in a village within Nagano prefecture. One day, their admired village policeman and kyujitsu master, Kuroto Kai, died under mysterious circumstances. This tragedy spurred Uehara and Yamato, who had joined the police force inspired by Kai, to delve into investigating his death. When Yamato suffered critical injuries in an unrelated case, which left him with a damaged leg and a trademark scarred eye, Uehara took it upon herself to continue the investigation alone. She resigned from the police force and married into one of the families she suspected of being involved in Kai's murder. Despite spending a year within the household, the case only came to light when a new series of mysterious murders occurred, with her husband becoming the first victim. It was then that Conan and Heiji were called in to solve the murders. Following the resolution of the case, Uehara rejoined the police force. Uehara is known for her friendly and considerate nature, which nicely balances out Yamato's harsh demeanor and behavior. Their contrasting personalities complement each other well. Her actions often hint at deeper feelings for Yamato, but his commitment to professionalism has so far prevented any serious personal involvement. However, Yamato does not seem opposed to the idea of a relationship.
