Born into the renowned Shaman family, Asakura, You has a twin brother named Hao, who is a powerful reincarnation of the original Hao. For this reason, You is believed to be the only one capable of defeating his brother. He himself is, as mentioned in the manga, half of the original Hao, thus possessing many qualities of the previous reincarnations. You also has a fiancée named Anna, whom he saved from the destructive power of Reishi (mind-reading). This was aided by Hao's old cat friend, Matamune. However, Matamune tragically dies after saving Anna's life, using the last bit of his energy to do so. When You was 13, he joined the Shaman Fight with the goal of making life more comfortable for both him and Anna.
You is generally a laid-back individual. He gets along well with everyone around him and finds it easy to make friends. Although he may not appear serious most of the time, he can become very serious when necessary. Interestingly, his twin brother Hao shares some of these characteristics.
