A samurai who died during the Muromachi period 600 years ago, now serves as Yoh's ghostly companion. He is exceptionally powerful and wise, yet notably quiet and deeply devoted to "Lord Yoh" ("Yō-dono" in Japanese). Known widely in the town of Funbari, he perished there six centuries ago after slaying hundreds of samurai in a fierce battle. He was the original wielder of the legendary sword "Harusame," which means "Spring Rain," forged by his best friend, Mosuke, who also appears as a spirit in the anime/manga. This very sword was later recreated as a "spirit sword" used by Asakura Yoh during the Shaman Fight, while the original was preserved in a museum. His name derives from the Buddha Amitabha, the central figure in the Pure Land Buddhist sect.
