He comes from a lineage of mages recognized for three generations. Despite his talent, he remains unrecognized by his peers and lecturers. Waver is an intelligent young man who developed the revolutionary concept that a mage's power could be enhanced through effort, experience, and knowledge, rather than relying solely on increasing magical potential through heirs. His idea was dismissed by his lecturer, the nobleman Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi, who tore up Waver's manuscript without a second thought. When Waver learns that El-Melloi will participate in the fourth Holy Grail War in Japan, he steals the artifact intended for summoning El-Melloi's Servant and escapes to Japan. Determined to win the Holy Grail to prove his genius to the Magus Association, Waver uses the stolen artifact to summon the Rider-class Servant, Iskander. After the Grail War, Waver decides to live with the Mackenzies to save money for traveling around the world. He takes along various items accumulated by Iskander during their time together, including video games that the Servant bought but never had a chance to play.
