Vrumugun is the name assigned to a collective of replicant men created by Eris, acting as antagonists during the first season of Slayers and the third novel.
In the novels, Eris deployed the Vrumuguns in an attempt to capture Lina Inverse, Gourry Gabriev, and Zelgadis Greywords, bringing them to Sairaag. However, she dispatched only one Vrumugun at a time, sending a new copy whenever one was defeated. This initially perplexed Lina and her companions, as no matter how many times they killed Vrumugun, he kept reappearing (they had assumed Vrumugun was a single individual, not a group of copies). The Vrumugun duplicates ceased to exist once their controller perished. In the anime, he was paired with Zangulus in their efforts to apprehend Gourry and Lina. While Zangulus was impulsive and conceited, Vrumugun remained calm, composed, and earnest. Interestingly, in episode 18, after Zelgadis annihilates a cluster of clones, Vrumugun vanishes and is never seen again for the remainder of season 1.
There's significant ambiguity regarding the true identity of the original Vrumugun, as none of the Slayers mediums specify it clearly. In the novels, evidence hints that Eris could be the original. She (and possibly the original Rezo) created them, and her last name is also Vrumugun. Conversely, in the anime, Eris' surname is never mentioned, nor does it suggest she is the original. Furthermore, at the end of Slayers NEXT, we briefly glimpse someone resembling Vrumugun at Zangulus and Martina's wedding. It is implied this person is the original Vrumugun.
