Dilgear was a half-beastman, half-troll who served as a henchman to both Zelgadiss Graywords and his great-grandfather, Rezo the Red Priest. Unlike Zolf, Rodimus, and Noonsa, Dilgear exhibited extreme violence in battle, often resorting to killing his opponents. Despite being under Zelgadiss' command, his true allegiance lay with Rezo. Thus, it came as no surprise to Zelgadiss when Dilgear betrayed him after Zelgadiss severed ties with Rezo following Noonsa's death.
In their initial confrontation, Dilgear found himself outmatched and retreated. During their second encounter, he mistakenly believed salvation had arrived when Zolf and Rodimus appeared. However, they declared their loyalty to Zelgadiss, not Rezo. Shortly thereafter, Zolf severely wounded Dilgear, whose last words were: "Just wait until I come back to life!" Thanks to his troll heritage and regenerative abilities, he did revive, but never achieved his vengeance. Without a place to go, he wandered into Zephilia and collapsed from hunger.
Luna Inverse, known for feeding stray animals, discovered him and decided to adopt him. He awoke chained inside a large doghouse in her backyard. To his horror, Luna renamed him Spot. Despite this indignity, he felt a sense of loyalty due to owing her his life and remained her pet. Some fans mistakenly believed Dilgear was Greater Beast Zelas Metallium’s beast form. In truth, Zelas and Luna would be adversaries, as Zelas is a mazoku while Luna serves the shinzoku.
In the manga, Dilgear's portrayal differed from the novels or anime. Instead of serving Zelgadiss and Rezo, he was a bounty hunter sent by Eris Vrumugun alongside Rahanimu and Vrumugun to eliminate Gourry Gabriev and Lina Inverse. Curiously, Dilgear vanished shortly after his introduction, possibly fleeing or being killed off-screen.
