Vergo is a subordinate of Donquixote Doflamingo and serves as a Marine Vice Admiral, heading the G-5 division. He made his first appearance on Punk Hazard and can be considered the secondary antagonist of the Punk Hazard Arc due to his duplicitous conduct and allegiances. During a brief conversation with Trafalgar Law, Vergo demonstrated his shrewdness by expressing mistrust towards Caesar Clown, having placed Monet on the island to monitor Caesar's actions. Vergo also comes across as somewhat condescending, mocking Law’s position by feigning respect for the Shichibukai. Viewing himself as superior to the Shichibukai, Vergo quickly reminded Law of their power disparity by beating him unconscious. Additionally, he demands respect from others, insisting that Law address him as "Vergo-san." Vergo stated that his favorite food is hamburgers, and he appears to be a messy eater, as he was initially shown with a hamburger still on the side of his cheek. Around citizens, Vergo is described as an amiable person, unlike many other G-5 Marines. The parents of the children kept on Punk Hazard trusted Vergo’s assurance that all missing children had died in an accident, which led them to partly believe their children were truly gone, though some still held onto hope. By easily deceiving both citizens and the entire Marine organization, Vergo has proven to be highly manipulative. Despite his perceived intelligence, Vergo occasionally displays moments of air-headedness, such as when he claimed to Caesar Clown that he had been enjoying coffee and cookies, only to be reminded shortly after that there had never been any cookies to begin with.
