Ulquiorra is a male arrancar with a melancholic appearance and holds the rank of 4th Espada.
Ulquiorra is highly analytical. During his and Yammy's first visit to the human world, he made several observations about the humans they encountered. He theorized that Orihime Inoue’s healing abilities involve manipulating time and space, which Aizen described as the rejection of fate. He also noted that Ichigo Kurosaki’s final release could easily penetrate Yammy’s defenses and observed Ichigo’s fluctuating power levels, which ranged from very weak to stronger than Ulquiorra himself.
It seems that Ulquiorra and Grimmjow, the 6th Espada, have a contentious relationship. While Ulquiorra allowed Yammy to kill anyone deemed "trash," including Ichigo, he believed that Ichigo’s turbulent power would eventually lead to his self-destruction. Grimmjow, on the other hand, argued that Ichigo should be eliminated immediately since he could overcome his weaknesses and grow stronger. Despite their disagreement, Aizen trusted Ulquiorra’s judgment. This conflict led to Grimmjow’s unauthorized attack on the real world. Although Ulquiorra outranks Grimmjow, Grimmjow believes Ulquiorra avoids fighting him out of fear they might destroy each other.
Upon releasing his zanpakutou, Murciélago (Spanish for "bat"), Ulquiorra grows two large black wings on his back. His hollow helmet forms atop his head with two large horns, and his arrancar uniform becomes more form-fitting at the top, resembling a robe towards the bottom. Ulquiorra uniquely has a second release, Resurrección Segunda Etapa. In this form, he becomes more muscular with clawed hands and feet, his eyes turn completely black, and his helmet transforms into elongated horns. He loses his clothes; his arms and legs from the hips down are covered in black fur, and he gains a long thin tail. In both forms, he can create energy lances called Lanza del Relámpago (Spanish for "lance of lightning"), which cause explosions upon impact. Initially unfamiliar with this technique in his second release state, he compensates by producing multiple lances if the first one misses its target.
