Tonjit is one of the nomads living on Longring Longland. He was trapped on a pair of very tall stilts for ten years, which separated him from the rest of the nomads. After the Straw Hat Pirates helped him down, he lamented that he couldn't reunite with his clan due to high tides. However, he was reunited with his horse, Shelly. Unfortunately, Shelly was later captured by Foxy, leading to the Davy Back Fight. After Luffy defeated Foxy, Aokiji appeared and used his Devil Fruit powers to freeze all the water around the island for a week, allowing Tonjit to ride Shelly across the frozen sea to meet his clan. In the anime, instead of Aokiji's intervention, Tonjit's grandson appeared from underground, riding a mule, which provided Tonjit with transportation.
Tonjit's clothing, nomadic lifestyle, horse, and dwelling in a yurt suggest inspiration from the nomadic peoples of Central Asia, particularly Mongolia.
