Mikogami is a cryptic exorcist and an old friend of the bus driver, sharing similarly eerie eyes. He serves as the headmaster of Yokai Academy, always cloaked and concealing his features. Mikogami wields formidable anti-demonic powers, including the ability to suppress Tsukune's ghoul nature with a "Holy Lock." His magical prowess extends to creating alternate dimensions, such as a sanctuary for unstable and endangered beast-monsters.
In truth, Mikogami is one of the Three Dark Lords, the founders of Yokai Academy, responsible for establishing the barrier that separates the human world from the supernatural realm. He holds the Rosary of Judgement, an artifact used for creating barriers, and is aware that Tsukune is human. Nonetheless, he permits Tsukune to remain at the academy in exchange for assistance against Hokuto, the leader of the Anti-Schoolers. Mikogami appears to be either immortal or endowed with remarkable regenerative abilities, having recovered from severe injuries inflicted by the Anti-Schoolers' leader.
Deeply committed to fostering coexistence between humans and monsters, Mikogami urges Tsukune to prevent Hokuto from instigating a massacre. Despite being a powerful Dark Lord, his sealing and barrier spells are reportedly less potent than those of his mentor, Touhou Fuhai, who taught him these techniques.
