Ruby Toujou is a witch originating from the human world, who was initially involved in a scheme to annihilate humanity as retaliation for a vast garbage dump contaminating her mistress's sanctuary. Her disdain for humans originates from a tragic car accident caused by a drunk driver that claimed her parents' lives while they were on vacation in the human realm. Recalling the affection bestowed upon her by her parents, Ruby endeavors to dissuade her mistress from executing her destructive plan, but her efforts prove futile since her mistress remains steadfast in her mission to obliterate the human world. After her mistress is defeated and laid to rest, Ruby vanishes only to reappear when Tsukune transforms uncontrollably into a ghoul, aiding Mikogami in suppressing his powers. She now resides at Youkai Academy as Mikogami's aide and continues serving him in the second manga series. Despite not being an official student, she gains permission to join the Newspaper Club. In the anime adaptation, there is a recurring gag where Ruby randomly switches positions within the school. When queried about this behavior, she responds with "many many things" occurring, suggesting these are orders from Mikogami as gratitude for providing her with a new magic wand.
An omake later reveals that Ruby works under Mikogami due to her infatuation with Tsukune, allowing her proximity to him by working at the academy. The anime omits her master's presence or mentions of her parents, significantly altering the events surrounding her, including the reasons for her return. Much of Ruby's magical prowess centers around themes of ravens and flora, both as familiars and alternate forms she can assume. Her most striking form features six raven wings with razor-sharp feathers sprouting from her back. Ruby has exhibited masochistic tendencies and displayed herself as the most perverted among them during a training exercise aimed at helping Tsukune control his ghoul powers, even confessing to Tsukune a desire to be his "toy" under the influence of the Lilith Mirror.
