Tatsuki is Orihime's best friend and is very protective of her. She possesses extraordinary strength for a girl and is the star of her karate team. She even secured second place in a regional tournament, but only because she had an injured arm from being hit by a car. Among Ichigo's friends, Tatsuki has known him the longest, having trained together in after-school karate classes when they were young. Although she eventually gains the ability to see ghosts and sense hollows, she never develops any supernatural powers of her own. Despite everyone keeping the existence of hollows and their abilities a secret from her, she occasionally catches glimpses of Ichigo in his shinigami uniform or recalls fragments of memories from encounters with hollows.
During the "Hueco Mundo" arc, her friendship with Ichigo becomes visibly strained when she aggressively demands answers about Orihime's disappearance and the strange occurrences she has witnessed. This tension escalates to the point where she punches him through a glass window when he refuses to provide answers.
When Ichigo enters the portal to Hueco Mundo to rescue Orihime, Tatsuki is seen secretly watching him leave, only to be discovered by Urahara, who apparently allows her to follow him. It is assumed that he provides her with some of the answers she seeks, as her memories are not erased when she is next seen.
