Taketsuna Gori holds the position of 5th Seat in the 3rd Division of the Gotei 13, serving under Captain Roujuurou Otoribashi. Alongside Lieutenant Izuru Kira and other officers from the Third Division, he stands at the base of one of the pillars of blue flame created by the Vandenreich invasion. Growing impatient, Taketsuna expresses his frustration with the waiting and wishes for the enemy to show up soon. Upon receiving information from a member of the Reishi Investigation Team that there is a Quincy inside the flame, Izuru commands them to attack. However, before any action can be taken, Izuru suffers severe injuries. Rikū Togakushi then orders the remaining Shinigami to use their Shikai to engage the enemy.
