He serves as the lieutenant (Vice-Captain) of the 1st Division and is notably the least visible among all lieutenants. During scenes featuring Head Captain Yamamoto in his office, Sasakibe often assumes the role of a secretary or door guard rather than a lieutenant. In omake segments, he is depicted with a fondness for tea. Records indicate that Sasakibe had mastered his Bankai before Juushirou Ukitake and Shunsui Kyouraku. Despite this, he never participated in battles or demonstrated his Bankai publicly throughout his tenure in the Gotei 13, leading some to underestimate him. He turned down opportunities to act as a substitute captain when positions became vacant, out of loyalty to Captain-Commander Yamamoto. At the start of The Thousand-Year Blood War arc, Sasakibe faces an attack by members of the Vandenreich. During this confrontation, he uses his Bankai for the first time in his life. However, his Bankai is stolen, and Sasakibe is ultimately killed. Before his death, he reveals this secret to Yamamoto.
