Ryunosuke Umemiya, commonly known as "Wooden Sword" Ryu, is a character from the anime and manga series Shaman King. In the English version of the anime, he is referred to as Rio. His nickname translates directly to "Dragon of the Wooden Sword." Born on December 24, 1980, Ryu is a Capricorn with blood type O. He typically dresses in flamboyant 1970s fashion, including white suits and dark shirts with oversized collars, cuffs, and lapels, complemented by pointed shoes. For battles, he wears a vest-style shirt that exposes his midriff and pants that flare out above the ankles. His most distinctive feature is a foot-long pompadour hairstyle, which frequently gets cut off by characters like You Asakura. Ryu earned his nickname for carrying a wooden sword, or bokutou. In the English anime adaptation, he speaks with a Hispanic accent.
