Rikuu Togakushi holds the position of the 3rd Seat in the 3rd Division of the Gotei 13, serving under Captain Roujuurou Otoribashi.
Alongside Lieutenant Izuru Kira and other officers of the Third Division, he is stationed at one of the pillars of blue flame created by the Vandenreich invasion. When a member of the Reishi Investigation Team informs them of a Quincy inside the flame, Izuru commands them to attack. However, before any action can be taken, Izuru suffers severe injuries.
Rikuu denounces the treacherous nature of this surprise attack and orders the remaining Shinigami to use their Shikai to retaliate. He releases his own Shikai, but the Quincy appears behind him and swiftly cuts him down. The SRDI reports that his reiatsu has completely vanished.
