Recca is a teenager with an intense fascination for ninjas and anything related to them. He boldly declared that he would serve anyone who could defeat him in combat as their loyal ninja.
In reality, Recca is the second son of Ouka, the leader of the Hokage ninja clan from over 400 years ago. His older half-brother, Kurei, was set to inherit the leadership due to being the eldest and possessing the ability to control fire. However, Recca also displayed similar abilities as an infant, making him the true heir to the Hokage leadership. During the massacre of the Hokage ninja clan by Oda Nobunaga, Recca's mother, Kagerō, used a forbidden technique to open a portal, transporting him into the future, where the Flame of Recca storyline begins.
Recca's flame powers originate from eight Flame Dragons (known as Karyū in Japanese). His powers were so formidable that they had to be sealed using a wrist guard. In the later parts of the series, it is revealed that he is not actually a flame wielder because his flame lacks form.
