Kage Houshi, whose true name is Kagerou, is the first antagonist introduced in the series. She wields the madougu Eikai Kyoku ("Shadow Ball"), which grants her the abilities to teleport through shadows, reveal the past to others, and perform scrying. As the series progresses, she is also seen using a Shikigami (hair) and the madougu Hokishin.
She employed a technique known as Jikuuryuuri, which allows the user to travel or send someone else to a different time, to save the infant Recca from being killed along with the rest of the Hokage clan. However, this technique comes with a curse of immortality for the user. Her immortality curse is finally lifted after her battle with Rasen.
It is later revealed that she is Recca's mother.
