Yasutora Sado's grandfather, Oscar Joaquín, appears to be a strong yet gentle old man. After the death of Chad's parents, he adopted and raised Chad in Mexico. Chad affectionately calls him "Abuelo," which means Grandfather in Spanish. In his early years, Chad was extremely violent, using his size to intimidate and bully other children who annoyed him. Despite Oscar Joaquín's efforts to teach him gentleness, his lessons initially fell on deaf ears. One day, the fathers of the children Chad had fought sought to punish him. Instead of retaliating, Oscar Joaquín stepped in to take Chad's punishment. This act inspired Chad to strive to become a better person. Afterwards, Oscar Joaquín gave Chad a Mexican coin minted between 1823 and 1909, bearing the inscription "Republica Mexicana" and the Mexican National Emblem. The modern Mexican peso features the words "Estados Unidos Mexicanos," introduced by the monetary reform of 1905. Years later, after Oscar Joaquín passed away, Chad made a vow to never fight unless it was to protect others, even if his own life was at risk. This coin became a symbol of that vow, which Chad now values more than his own life. When Abuelo died, Chad decided to return to Japan.
