Moria is the captain of the world's largest pirate ship, Thriller Bark, and once had a bounty of 320,000,000 Beli. Thanks to the Kage Kage no Mi (Shadow Shadow Fruit), he can transform shadows, including his own, into solid objects, though the full extent of his abilities remains unclear. He stole Brook's shadow along with those of numerous other beings. Losing a shadow results in a two-day coma and instant vaporization upon exposure to sunlight. The shadow acts as a second soul, mimicking its owner's movements and mannerisms. Moria creates zombies by inserting shadows into lifeless bodies, enhanced by Hogback’s medical expertise, producing powerful and obedient zombie warriors. However, if the original owner of the shadow dies, so does the corresponding zombie. Therefore, Moria has the de-shadowed individuals placed on his ship and removed from Thriller Bark.

He wields gigantic scissors used to sever shadows from their owners' bodies. Moria is calm under pressure, unfazed even when his ship and crew are being destroyed. He has X-shaped marks above his nose and below his chin, possibly stitches. His motto emphasizes reliance on others to achieve his goals, encapsulated in his favorite phrase: "You do it!" This reflects his lazy personality and tendency to delegate all work to his subordinates. This attitude extends to his fighting style, where he prefers to let his shadow, Doppelman, battle using the powers of the Kage Kage no Mi while he stays back.
