Masaki Kurosaki is the beloved mother of Ichigo Kurosaki, who tragically lost her life while protecting her son from the Grand Fisher. She was known for her deep love and care as both a mother and a wife.
The Grand Fisher used the appearances of humans he had devoured, mainly women, to lure others with high spiritual energy. Young Ichigo, unable to differentiate between ghosts and humans at the time, saw the lure and chased after it. Masaki, realizing the danger, followed Ichigo and shielded him from the Grand Fisher, sacrificing herself in the process. According to Ichigo, Masaki was the heart of the family, and her death left an immense void.
Every year, the family visits her grave, and it's the only day Isshin smokes. He does this because Masaki once complimented him on how cool he looked while smoking when they first started dating. Isshin also hung a large poster of her in their home with the phrase "Masaki forever."
Tatsuki Arisawa mentioned that Ichigo stopped crying every time he thought of his mother. She believed Masaki was the most beautiful mother ever and that Ichigo blamed himself for her death. Isshin also felt responsible, believing he should have protected her. However, he explained to Ichigo that blaming him would go against Masaki’s wishes, as she gave her life to save him.
Masaki was a Quincy and was adopted into the Ishida family.
