Kukai Souma is the former Jack's Chair, one year older than Amu. Known for his energetic and upbeat personality, he serves as the captain of the Soccer Club, showcasing his athleticism and excellent reflexes. Having graduated, he has been replaced in his role.
In a school magazine, Kukai and Amu were mistakenly identified as a couple when a student captured a photo of him holding Amu after she had undergone Character Change and lost her strength. Saaya, who seems to have a crush on Kukai, was visibly upset upon seeing the picture.
Kukai, with the power of the Humpty Lock, once performed a Character Transformation with Daichi, resulting in "Sky Jack." During a Character Change, Daichi shouts, "Kick, Stack, Trap, and Shoot!"
At the end of the school year, Kukai graduates and moves on to middle school but continues to visit the Guardians from time to time. He develops a close friendship with Utau in both the anime and manga, raising suspicions from Yaya.
In the first chapter of Shugo Chara! Encore!, it is revealed that Kukai has feelings for Utau, which are eventually reciprocated, leading them to become a couple.
