Amu Hinamori is the main character and a student at Seiyo Elementary. Her classmates view her as "Cool and Spicy," but in reality, Amu is quite shy and timid. This misconception partly stems from the trendy punk outfits her mother buys for her and her tendency to express shyness by avoiding new experiences. When Amu wishes for the courage to become her true self, three colorful eggs appear the next morning, eventually hatching into her Guardian Characters: Ran, Miki, and Su. During Character Change and Character Transformation, Amu's hair clip changes (Ran→Heart, Miki→Spade, Su→Clover, Dia→Diamond). Each transformation grants her specific abilities: Amulet Heart is athletic, Amulet Spade is artistic, Amulet Clover excels in housework, and Amulet Diamond is a talented musician. Amu has a crush on Tadase Hotori, the King's Chair of Seiyo Elementary Guardians. However, when she confessed her feelings during her first Character Change with Ran in front of the entire school, Tadase rejected her. Amu later discovers that Tadase struggles with receiving confessions and tends to Character Change with Kiseki, who would refuse them. Initially, Amu declines the offer to join the Guardians, citing her dislike for the royal cape. Despite this, they appoint her as a member under the special position of Joker's Chair. Upon joining, she receives her own royal cape, to which she exclaims, "Anything but that!" She also receives the "Humpty Lock," a locket adorned with a four-leaf clover. Nadeshiko explains that the first king left it with the instruction, "Entrust this to the joker who comes with three Guardian Eggs." The Joker's role is to hunt and purify X eggs, a task only Amu can accomplish. Amu develops feelings for Ikuto, blushing whenever he touches her, though she initially doesn't realize it. She is shocked to see Utau kiss Ikuto and likely feels jealous. In volume 5, Amu goes on a date with Tadase, showing some development in their relationship. During the date, Ikuto confronts her, confessing his interest in her. In episode 29, Utau tells Amu that Ikuto likes her, and in chapter 28, Ikuto confirms his feelings by saying, "It's you." Amu initially dismisses it as a joke but realizes Ikuto was being honest after Utau assures her. Amu experiences "love confusion" as she thinks about four different guys. For example, in episode 35, she catches a bride's bouquet and imagines herself as a bride. Suddenly, Tadase appears and holds her hand, Ikuto grabs the bouquet, and Kukai and Kairi give her more bouquets. Amu's Transformations (in order of appearance in the anime):
