Kuroobi is a ray-type fish-man and one of the strictest members in his crew. He has always been suspicious of Nami's loyalty to Arlong. Kuroobi uses "Fish-Man Karate," which was referred to as "Merman Karate" in the now-defunct 4Kids dub, to battle his opponents. During the Arlong arc, he faces off against Sanji, nearly defeating the cook when Sanji dives underwater to rescue Luffy. As a Fish-Man, Kuroobi holds an advantage in water. However, Sanji forces him onto dry land by breathing the air from Kuroobi's gills, causing him to suffocate. Once on land, Sanji easily beats Kuroobi into submission with his powerful kicks.
