Keigo is typically a goofy and extremely hyper-active character, often using overly-dramatic movements and words to express his feelings. He fits the stereotype of a Japanese teenager: he enjoys watching fireworks, playing role-playing games, attending beach parties, and similar activities. Initially introduced as comic relief, Keigo becomes more prominent as the series progresses. The Asano family includes Keigo's mother, father, his sister Mizuho, and Keigo himself. Unlike many other recurring characters, he lives with both of his parents, similar to Tatsuki Arisawa. A good-natured teenager, Keigo is primarily used for comedic effect, especially in scenes involving his failed attempts to impress girls and his interactions with Ichigo. He is close friends with fellow student Mizuiro Kōjima, whose calm demeanor and success with women serve as a foil to Keigo’s impulsive nature. At first glance, Keigo seems shallow, taking pride in not making it to the honors roster (higher than 50th ranking) and calling those who do "traitors" (including Ichigo and Chad, who ranked 23rd and 11th respectively). However, Mizuiro notes that Keigo is actually smarter than his grades suggest. Later in the series, it is revealed that Keigo can see ghosts and even soul reapers during the Hueco Mundo/Arrancar arc. The first soul reaper he ever saw was Ikkaku Madarame, who saved him from an arrancar.
