kaya

Kaya (カヤ) is a wealthy girl who inherits a fortune after her parents pass away. She becomes frail and frequently relies on her caretaker, Klahadore, who was rescued by her father three years prior when he was found nearly dead at their doorstep. Her father took pity on him and offered him a job. Unknown to many, Usopp, the town's storyteller, climbs a tree outside her window and entertains her with tall tales that lift her spirits. However, Klahadore disapproves of this and eventually bans Usopp from visiting, convincing Kaya that he is a negative influence. One day, Usopp overhears a conversation between Klahadore and Jango, a hypnotist. He discovers that Klahadore is actually Captain Kuro, plotting to kill Kaya for her wealth. Over the past three years, Kuro has been building trust within Kaya and the village to execute his plan. Usopp attempts to warn Kaya, but she dismisses his warnings as lies. Eventually, she learns the truth and, after Kuro is defeated, she gifts the Straw Hats the ship Going Merry. In a recent manga chapter (440), Kaya is seen discovering Usopp's Sogeking bounty poster. She and the former Usopp Pirates immediately recognize him by his distinctive nose. Kaya expresses her desire to continue studying medicine so that she can help Usopp when he returns, likely injured from his adventures.
