Kaku is initially introduced as one of the five foremen at Galley-La Company's Dock One, specializing in mechanical diagnostics and house calls. He was the one who inspected the Going Merry and informed the Straw Hat Pirates that their ship was irreparably damaged.
He possesses strong legs that enable him to run swiftly and jump great distances over the cityscape, allowing him to complete ship checkups quickly.
Besides his role at Galley-La, Kaku is also a member of CP9, possessing the power of the Ushi Ushi no Mi, Model: Giraffe (Cow Cow Fruit, Model: Giraffe). This Devil Fruit reflects his fondness for giraffes, as mentioned when he is teased about his powers.
Prior to revealing his true identity, Kaku uses a technique called Storm Leg to crack the wall trapping Luffy, showcasing the strength of his legs.
Despite being part of CP9, Kaku exhibits a sense of honor and adventure comparable to Luffy's. This is evident during his defeat, where he reminisces about the joy he experienced as a carpenter and flying through the cityscape.
