Megure Juuzou, often known as Inspector Megure, holds the position of Police Inspector (Rank 6) in Division 1 of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He is almost invariably present at crime scenes when a murder occurs, interviewing suspects and acting as the commanding officer for his team, which includes Takagi Wataru, Satou Miwako, Shiratori Ninzaburou, and Chiba. Megure is an experienced and capable officer who shows great concern for his subordinates. However, he has a tendency to lose his temper when things do not go as planned or when his frustration gets the better of him. He has little patience for incompetence and can be somewhat conservative, which sometimes hinders his ability to think flexibly. Early in his career, Megure was involved in a case that led him to meet his future wife, Midori. Due to this case, he wears a hat in public to conceal a scar he received and out of self-consciousness about how he came to be married. Megure was also a close friend of the renowned detective story novelist Kudou Yuusaku, consulting him on various cases. During these consultations, Yuusaku often brought along his son Shinichi, who learned investigative skills from his father and eventually became a detective himself. After Shinichi helped solve their first mutual case, Megure began regularly seeking his assistance on difficult cases, finding him invaluable. Conversely, Megure tends to dismiss Conan and the Detective Boys as nuisances until they prove instrumental in solving cases. Similarly, from their shared police days, Megure does not hold Kogorou in high regard, believing that Kogorou might be under a jinx since murders seem to occur wherever he appears—a fact that later aligns with Conan's presence. In some anime original episodes, Megure often lectures culprits on the immorality of their actions, a trait rarely seen in the manga series.
