Faust is a descendant of the original Faustus, who made a pact with the devil. In Shaman King, Faust VIII was a lonely boy who had only one friend, Eliza. When Eliza fell ill with an incurable disease, Faust dedicated his life to finding a cure and eventually succeeded. He became a doctor, saved Eliza's life, and married her. They lived together in their clinic in Germany until one night when a burglar broke in and shot Eliza dead.
Heartbroken, Faust turned to his ancestor's dark arts, specifically necromancy. Now, he fights to become the Shaman King and bring Eliza back to life. His spirit ally is Eliza herself, and his medium is her skeleton, which is always chained to Faust's arm.
