Izaemon Toudou (藤堂 為左衛门, Tōdō Izaemon) held the position of 6th Seat in the 9th Division of the Gotei 13, serving under Captain Muguruma Kensei. Appearance: Toudou sports black hair tied up in a high ponytail and wears distinctive headgear. His expression is typically serious, and he dresses in the standard Shinigami uniform along with a white jacket that has a high collar reaching up to his neck. History: Turn Back the Pendulum arc Toudou was initially introduced when Captain Muguruma Kensei and other high-ranking officers from the 9th Division were dispatched to investigate the mysterious disappearances of Rukongai residents. Alongside fellow division members, he helped save a young Hisagi Shuuhei and his friends from a Hollow attack. After the battle, they learned from Kuna Mashiro, who had been absent during the fight, that several Shinigami were also missing. Kensei connected the number of empty shihakushou found by Kuna to the number of members in an earlier investigative vanguard. Recognizing the severity of the situation, Kensei sent Toudou to retrieve a researcher from the 12th Division to look into the possibility of a pathogen being involved. Toudou successfully entered the 12th Division's lab and arranged for Captain Urahara to send Lieutenant Hiyori as support. Later that night, he returned to camp with Tousen Kaname, noting his tardiness while Shinobu Eishima and Tousen stood guard outside. Toudou offered to take over the watch so Tousen could rest, but Tousen declined, insisting all three should remain vigilant. While Lieutenant Kuna, Kensei, and 3rd Seat Kasaki Heizou were resting, Toudou and the other seated officers were attacked by an unknown assailant. Hearing screams, Kensei and Kasaki rushed out to find Toudou standing amidst the fallen bodies of the other two.
