Horohoro is an Ainu from Hokkaido, a prefecture in Japan. In the English anime, he is described as being from "the Northern Woods" instead of Hokkaido. His main goal in the Shaman Fight is to save the Koro Pokkuru, known as "Minutians" in the English version, a tiny spirit people. To achieve this, he plans to plant a vast field of Butterbur. His guardian ghost is Kororo, called "Corey" in the English anime, who has a crush on Manta Oyamada. In the manga, Horohoro becomes the third strongest of the Five Elemental Warriors and gains the Spirit of Rain. His furyoku level is 120,000, making him technically stronger than both Yoh and Tao Ren, who have levels of 108,000 and 100,001 respectively. Horohoro is good-natured and cheerful but turns serious in dangerous situations. He frequently argues with his teammate Tao Ren, though it's clear he cares for him deeply. During one instance, he tells Yoh Asakura that if he can't save Ren, as his friend, he would never forgive him. Horohoro is secretive about his past, unwilling to share details even with his closest friends. He can also be very competitive, going so far as to freeze and shatter Ryuu's arms during a fight between The Ren and Funbari Onsen. His name sounds like "boroboro," which means "crap" in Japanese, leading to frequent mispronunciations and misspellings by other characters, a running gag in the series. His real name is revealed to be Usui Horokeu. In "Shaman King: Kang Zeng Bang," Horohoro becomes enraged when Kalim mentions his true name.
