The story starts with Hazumu, the protagonist, initially as a boy who harbored a crush on his friend and classmate Yasuna Kamiizumi since their first encounter. His appearance and behavior lacked typical masculine traits, leading to teasing from peers for being too feminine. The manga and anime both include flashbacks of a young Hazumu dressed in girls' clothes. Whether this was his choice or his mother's doing is never clarified, but he appeared to enjoy it.
Upon reaching high school, Hazumu confesses his feelings to Yasuna one day, only to be rejected. Seeking solace, he climbs Mt. Kashima where he suffers fatal injuries after an alien spacecraft crashes nearby. In an effort to rectify the accident, the alien revives Hazumu but inadvertently alters his sex from male to female.
Following this transformation and the initial shock from those around him, Hazumu exhibits an effusive, expressive, and sensitive personality that aligns well with traditional Japanese femininity. Over time, her actions, mannerisms, and overall demeanor become more feminine. An exception is her continued use of "boku" (僕), a pronoun typically used by males in Japan, to refer to herself.
Hazumu, an amateur floriculturist, has a deep love and extensive knowledge of plants, especially flowers. She joins the Gardening Club and takes care of numerous plants around the school campus, though she is often seen doing most of the work alone throughout the series.
A comparison between the manga and anime versions of Hazumu reveals distinct differences. In the anime, Hazumu appears more reserved and reliant on others when faced with danger. Conversely, the manga portrays her as a stronger character who isn't afraid to stand up for herself with sharp retorts.
