Hondou Eisuke first appeared shortly after one of Conan's encounters with the Black Organization, revealing that popular newscaster Mizunashi Rena was a member. He enrolled at Teitan High School and quickly befriended Mouri Ran and Suzuki Sonoko, who noticed his striking resemblance to Mizunashi. Later, Eisuke visited Ran's father at his office, where he also encountered Conan. After showing keen interest in Mouri's work, he was invited by Ran to visit anytime, much to Conan's displeasure. Conan became suspicious of Eisuke, especially as Eisuke made several blunders in subsequent cases that inadvertently helped solve them. Eisuke is extremely unlucky, often bumping into or falling over things. However, beneath his clumsiness lies a sharp intellect and keen observational skills. With minimal clues, he managed to track down his vanished sister to Haido Central Hospital, where the FBI was guarding her, and even infiltrated the facility to confront Mizunashi Rena, who was really his sister Hondou Hidemi, before being discovered by Conan. He deduced that Shinichi and Conan were the same person before meeting Conan and later forced the truth out of him. Over time, Conan learned that Eisuke was indeed related to Mizunashi. He came to Tokyo seeking clues about his sister's whereabouts, after seeing her working as a newscaster by chance. He learned from Conan, Hidemi, and Akai Shuuichi that his sister, along with his late father, worked for the CIA against the Black Organization. After this revelation, Eisuke was offered a place in the Witness Protection Program but declined, deciding instead to follow in his family's footsteps by joining the CIA someday. Alone with Conan, he confessed his love for Ran and wished to take her to America. When Conan protested, Eisuke laughed, stating that Conan's reaction confirmed his suspicions: Conan was Kudou Shinichi and responsible for "Sleeping Kogoro's" success. With this knowledge, he asked Conan/Shinichi to take care of Ran for him, promising to keep his secret.
