Brownbeard is an exceptionally large, obese man who stands approximately three times taller and four times wider than an average human. He sports a long brown beard divided into three neat braids, along with a mustache. His attire consists of a large coat that barely reaches his shoulders, worn over an open shirt, leaving his chest exposed. Around his waist, he wears what looks like a massive wrestling belt adorned with his jolly roger. His hair, which emerges from under his tricorne hat, is also braided back.
Following the death of Whitebeard, Brownbeard took control of Foodvalten, one of the New World islands previously under Whitebeard's protection. However, shortly after claiming leadership, he encountered the Hawkins Pirates. Basil Hawkins casually infuriated Brownbeard by asking for his name. In response, Brownbeard proudly boasted about his "over 80 million" bounty and his glory. Hawkins then remarked that Brownbeard's name sounded ridiculous. As Hawkins drew his sword, preparing for battle, he ominously stated that he saw "the shadow of death" upon Brownbeard.
After being defeated by Basil Hawkins and losing his legs, Brownbeard and his crew arrived at Punk Hazard. There, Caesar Clown provided them with artificial legs. Later, Trafalgar Law used his Devil Fruit ability to replace Brownbeard's legs with alligator legs, transforming him into an alligator centaur and allowing him to walk again.
