belenus

Belenus first appears in chapter 5. Belenus is a nobleman. Bound by the conventions of his class, he was married to a woman of equal social standing. Under societal scrutiny, he was compelled to live this way, acknowledging that he did not love her. His house servant, Asaka, was the true focus of his affections, but circumstances prevented him from confessing or acting on these feelings. Driven by jealousy and convinced of an affair between her husband and Asaka, Belenus' wife made a blood pact with Lady Balaza, wishing for their deaths. The wife died from apparent blood loss, and the following night, a vampire came to claim the pact. By the time Belenus reached Asaka's room, the vampire had already taken her life. Before it could kill Belenus as well, Lenneth Valkyrie appeared. Distracted by their duel, the vampire was wounded by Belenus. The injured vampire retreated, vowing revenge. Belenus pleaded with Lenneth to help Asaka, stirring Lenneth's memory of her own mortal death. This moved Lenneth to offer Belenus the option of Soul Transfer. Belenus agreed to take Asaka's place, finding solace in finally being able to do something for her. He promised to wait until the end of Ragnarok to be reunited with Asaka. It is assumed that Belenus was promptly sent to Asgard, as he does not reappear until chapter 11 when Loki confronts Frei. Frei directs Belenus and Lawfer to attack Loki, and they engage Fenrir, the Ice Wolf. Before they can triumph, Loki easily kills them. It must be assumed that when Lenneth undoes Loki's destruction and rejuvenates Asgard and Midgard with her powers of Creation, Belenus is also revived. Belenus originated in Valkyrie Profile (Playstation) and does not appear elsewhere.
