arngrim

Arngrim first appears in the manga in chapter 1. He is depicted as a grim mercenary whose strength is both feared and admired, while others see him merely as a barbarian brute. Lawfer, a close friend, values Arngrim's support within the Knighthood, although Arngrim does not consider himself part of it.

At a ceremony honoring the Knighthood, Arngrim disrespected the King of Artolia, angering the King's headstrong daughter, Princess Jelanda. Seeking to restore her father's honor, Jelanda planned to challenge Arngrim under the guise of a peasant through a mercenary job. However, she became intoxicated and passed out before she could propose the task. Arngrim discovered her identity and allowed her to sleep it off at his home.

That night, a hooded woman hired Arngrim for a job. He teamed up with Badrach to escort an undisclosed cargo from Artolia to Villnore. Their journey was interrupted by the Artolian cavalry, who inspected their cargo and found Princess Jelanda. Arngrim and Badrach escaped, and Badrach revealed that Lombert, the King's adviser and a spy for Villnore, had truly hired them.

Learning this, Arngrim returned to find that Lombert had given Jelanda a ghoul powder disguised as medicine, transforming her into a demon-beast. Lenneth Valkyrie appeared, and together they defeated the monster. Enraged, Arngrim vowed revenge on Lombert.

Back at the castle, Arngrim confronted Lombert. In Lenneth's presence, Lombert's sorcery was neutralized, allowing Arngrim to defeat him. An abomination emerged from Lombert's body, which they also had to defeat. Two guards entered, intending to arrest Arngrim for killing a high official. Arngrim killed them in a bloodthirsty frenzy until Lawfer's father, the Commander, intervened. Unable to raise his sword against the Commander, Arngrim committed suicide. His soul joined Jelanda and Valkyrie.

When Lawfer becomes one of the Undead, it is Arngrim who defeats him. Arngrim assists Lenneth in minor battles throughout the manga. As one of the Einherjar, he helps defeat Hrist to seal the Valkyrie soul in a crystal. In the final chapter, he offers to fight Brahms so Lenneth can confront Loki. Brahms remarks that they "have the same fate as their last lives."

The evil dragon Bloodbane interrupts their fight, forcing Arngrim and Brahms to unite against it. At the end, Arngrim feels that he will have to fight Brahms again someday, but for now, there is peace.

Arngrim originated in Valkyrie Profile (Playstation) and also appears in Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (Playstation 2).
