Beckman is a notably tall individual, towering at least a foot above Shanks. His hair was jet black and styled in a ponytail twelve years ago when he was seen in Monkey D. Luffy's hometown. In the present storyline, his hair has turned gray and is now cut short. He is rarely seen without his rifle close by or a cigarette in his mouth. Additionally, he now bears a large, X-shaped scar on his left temple.
Beckman appears to be more serious and relaxed compared to the other crew members, often acting as the voice of reason. Along with Lucky Roo and Yasopp, he is among Shanks' most trusted crew members, frequently appearing whenever the Red Hair Pirates are featured, usually during significant events.
According to Oda, Beckman boasts the highest IQ among all characters introduced in the East Blue saga. As the first mate to a Yonko, he presumably holds considerable strength. During the Battle of Marineford, Admiral Kizaru opted not to engage him, even though he had just fought the First Commander of Whitebeard's crew and Whitebeard himself. It is worth noting that Kizaru did continue his attack on Luffy when Beckman descended to join the rest of his crew.
