Banchina (バンキーナ, Bankīna) was Usopp's mother and Yasopp's wife. She encouraged her husband to pursue his dreams and join the Red-Haired Pirates at sea. However, Usopp grew up with a mother who became bedridden due to illness. Every day, he would tell her the same lie—that his father had returned to take them away—hoping it would keep her spirits high and aid in her recovery. Despite knowing that her husband would never return, she expressed gratitude before her death for him going to sea. Even after her passing, Usopp continued to tell the same lie, even though there was no longer any reason to do so. In the Loguetown filler arc, Yasopp admitted that he felt useless and could do nothing for his wife and child. When one of Shanks' men asked, "Wasn't it for the better, Yasopp?" the crew cheered as if it were a good thing he left his family behind.
