Aoko Aozaki is a woman whom Shiki encountered during his childhood. At that time, Shiki was still in the hospital recovering from an accident that caused him to see lines invisible to others and granted him mysterious powers he couldn't control.
It was she who provided him with special glasses to block those lines from his vision. However, her most significant gift to him was instilling the will and purpose to live a good life. She taught him never to use his Mystic Eyes with the intent to kill but instead to protect those dear to him.

She dislikes her name (since it sounds like Blue Blue - Ao = Blue), so Shiki decided to call her "Teacher." (Note that Shiki never referred to anyone else as teacher; this shows how much he respects her.) Although she seems kind, she actually has a rough personality.

She is a mage from the Mage's Association. More than just an ordinary mage, she is one of the five great magic users still alive. People know her as "Magic Gunner, Miss Blue," and they fear her power, although her actual magic remains a mystery.

She also has a sister who appears in the parallel story of Tsukihime, Kara no Kyokai. The glasses she gave to Shiki were actually stolen from her sister, Touko.

Aoko is a Magician capable of using Magic Blue (魔法・青, Mahō Ao), the Fifth Magic (第五魔法), making her the only person in the current world capable of performing its miracles. Compared to others, like the Third Magic that has existed for over a millennium, Michael Roa Valdamjong calls it "just a thirty-year-old level Magic." He still considers it a rare and respectable ability. According to Wallachia, she uses a system to maintain her human form, and despite being a Dead Apostle Ancestor, he refers to her as a monster. While Aoko disputes this, claiming only the other four Magicians fit that description and that she is fully human, he sticks to his original analysis.
Its exact domain is uncertain, but it involves time travel. Her usage of it is limited to localized individual time travel, but Touko cannot believe that is the true nature of the Magic. Though unsure if Aoko has grasped its full potential, she is certain it is not a simple miracle. Time travel falls under the Second Magic because it involves revising records and rewriting events in parallel worlds. It makes no sense for such an ability to now be called the Fifth Magic, but Touko decides further speculation is none of her business.
Despite Touko being a vastly superior magus, Aoko was chosen to inherit the Magic instead of her. Though Touko boasts one of the greatest Magic Circuits in the world, the Fifth Magic does not require such a thing, and it can be said that Aoko's purity is more suited to it. The secret of the Fifth Magic lies in "advancing civilization," fitting how Alice represents Medieval Civilization and Aoko represents Consumption Civilization. This also explains why she is called the "newest" magician.
She is familiar with Zelretch and the Second Magic to some extent, as she can classify Neco-Arc existing in the world of Melty Blood as his doing.
