She first observes Kato Masaru aiding a family from one of the aliens. Confused by his actions, she questions him about what he was doing. Upon hearing that he was rescuing the family, she bursts into laughter. Initially, she trails behind him, waiting for an inconsistency between his deeds and words.
When no such contradiction appears and he even risks his life to save others, she distances herself from him. Feeling oddly guilty, she returns to assist Kato in battling the alien he was confronting. Regrettably, her presence hinders more than helps, leading Kato to rescue her instead. Over the following chapters, Yamasaki continues to shadow Kato and gradually becomes drawn to his kindness and empathy. Ultimately, she shares with him the story of her son (feeling closer to Kato after learning about his relationship with his younger brother).
After Kato declares his intention to serve as bait for the 100-point alien, Yamasaki asks if he and his brother would consider moving in with her and her son. To make this happen, she pledges to ensure Kato's survival at all costs.
She is killed in chapter 277 while protecting the immobilized Kato. Later in the series, she is brought back to life.
