Amu's innocent and pure-hearted three-year-old sister has the unique ability to see Guardian Characters even though she doesn't have one herself. In chapter 4 of the manga, Ami believes that Amu's Guardian Characters are dolls. Consequently, Amu leaves her Guardian Characters with Ami while she delivers sweets to Tadase. However, Amu soon discovers she delivered the wrong item. In the Japanese version, when Ami says "shugoi," the Guardian Characters mistake it for "Shugo Chara." Unlike her sister, Ami is often dressed in "Girly Lolita" style clothing. She admires both Utau and Amu and loves to sing. It is Ami who helps Utau turn towards the light. In chapter 25, Ami gets lost while trying to go home. Nagihiko finds her and brings her to where the Guardians and Utau are fighting. Upon arriving, Ami hugs Utau. While Amu holds Ami back, she explains that Ami always watches Utau on TV and idolizes her. Ami encourages Utau to sing, which makes Utau realize that she, as a child, was just like Ami and wanted to sing to make people happy, not to take away their hopes and dreams. Ami serves as a plot device in chapter 26.
