Why some people thinks that if a manga ends it's because it was cancelled?
Because they've read Bakuman or have learned about how the Manga Industry works some other way. It's all about money, the publishers will milk a property for all it's worth, until the sales of the tankubons, ergo the profit, starts to dwindle. Once the decline is statistically a fact, the author will be given a number of weeks to wrap his story up (which is what is happening with Bleach right now), as the manga is "renewed" for further publication at certain points correlating to the number of chapters produced (the original run is 20 chapters to determine if a new manga is going to be kept or cancelled as an example).
Only the biggest names in the industry are ever allowed to finish their stories as they please, and sometimes even being the biggest mangaka in Japan won't guarantee you can end it when and how you please. A good example of this would be Akira Toriyama and Dragon Ball, which he intended to end after Frieza's defeat. However, his editors "talked" him into continuing it for the sake of profit.
When you know how the industry operates, it's easy to spot various signs pointing towards cancellations and such.
Yeah. Like Bakuman is a great reference, specially when they're talking about only one magazine and of a different publisher, the most competitive and closed of all.
And my problem with the term "cancelled" is the concept.
Being cancelled implies that the manga have stuff to show and the author wants to work, but the magazine simply cuts it. Like if they're firing the mangaka.
And by the way you put your words is like the only manner of end a manga is cancelling it.
But, if the mangaka wants to finish the story, the magazine says "no" and wants to milk the manga and later the manga have a decline and is finished. Do you still say that he is being cancelled? I don't think so.
And definitely you're wrong when say that only the biggest names are allowed to finish their stories. There are tons of differents mangas that are allowed that. The more artistic ones, seinen, josei, of smaller magazines, but they exist.

And the magazine that publishes HSDK is the industries second biggest and most competitive one, shows how much you know.
Unless the author is given all the time he is needed to wrap a story up at his own pace and the way he always intended it to end at the point he and only he intended it to end, it's cancelled.
What I mean is that Bakuman isn't a refence even for Jump. And the difference between the biggest and the second allows different ways to deal with their mangas. The only magazine with the fame of harsh cancellations is Jump.
Take Anzai's mangas or Kongou Banchou, Kekkaishi and lot of well-know mangas of Sunday. None of them have the felling of being milked or that they were cancelled.
Even rushed ends don't mean nothing. In YYH for example, Togashi was tired too much to continue that Jump didn't have alternative.
HSD Kenishi may have been finished with the mangaka's own choice.

What happened to the guy (forgot his name) the elder was fighting on the island? he should still be alive and he was the main leader for the weapons division.
I thought this series would at least end when Kenichi became a master. Perhaps that whats the big announcement is....What if "Kenichi: The Mightiest DISCIPLE" is Ending, and a whole new manga starts up later in the future when Kenichi becomes a master or something along the lines of that.
